Saudi Arabia Seeks Partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory
ABUJA — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in establishing a partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance collaboration on security, economic development, and sustainable urban initiatives.
During a visit to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, praised the current administration for its efforts in developing what he termed a “beautiful green city.” Al-Balawi indicated that he anticipates strengthening ties with the FCT Administration and sharing expertise in green city planning.
The ambassador emphasized the significance of fortifying connections between the FCT and Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, along with other major cities in the kingdom.
In response, Minister Wike acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. He expressed a willingness to engage further, stating, “We will be happy and willing to visit Riyadh and other cities in Saudi Arabia to explore areas of common interest and collaborate for mutual benefits.”
Wike highlighted Saudi Arabia’s influential role in the Gulf Region, noting its rich history and vital partnership with Nigeria. He remarked, “We want to capitalize on this relationship to see how Riyadh and FCT can cooperate and learn from each other.”
The Minister also thanked Al-Balawi for his compliments regarding the ongoing transformation in the FCT, attributing the achievements to the political will of President Bola Tinubu. Wike conveyed confidence that the Tinubu administration is committed to continuing the development of the capital into a modern metropolis capable of competing globally.
“We have not yet reached our ultimate goals, but the Tinubu administration is dedicated and equipped to elevate the capital city to an international standard,” Wike added.
