Security: Abia govt to revalidate community vigilante operatives

Abia State to Validate Local Vigilante Operatives
The Abia State Homeland Security Agency announced plans to commence the validation and revalidation of local vigilante operatives across the state’s 17 local government areas.
In a statement issued Thursday, Ezinwanne Alili, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, notified community leaders and stakeholders of the upcoming exercise, which is set to take place from April 23 to May 8, 2026.
The state government emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance community security structures throughout Abia State. Community leaders are encouraged to cooperate with the agency’s personnel during their visits.
“All relevant stakeholders are hereby enjoined to be prepared to receive personnel from the agency who will be visiting communities for this purpose,” the statement read.
This announcement follows a recent incident in Okporouzu Elu Elu, Amakama, Umuahia South LGA, where a former vigilante member fatally shot a woman and injured two others before taking his own life.
