Ogun Governor Urges Collective Responsibility for Nigeria’s Future
Abeokuta, Nigeria – Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerians to view the nation as a collective inheritance, stressing the importance of shared responsibility for its future.
Abiodun made his remarks on Sunday during a Special Interdenominational Church Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, in Abeokuta, held in honor of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. Represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor implored citizens to ensure that future generations inherit a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation.
“The current challenges we face should not distract us from the possibilities that lie ahead. Citizens and government must work collaboratively to forge a robust society,” Abiodun stated.
He recognized President Bola Tinubu for his economic reforms outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that these policies would result in improved infrastructure, better livelihoods, and greater economic opportunities.
“Our commitment to enhancing economic programs, fortifying public institutions, and investing in human capital will persist throughout my administration,” Abiodun added. “The real measure of governance is not merely the projects inaugurated, but the enhancement of lives and creation of opportunities.”
In his sermon titled “A Call to Repentance,” Most Rev. Michael Fape, Archbishop of Lagos and Bishop of Remo, urged leaders and citizens to reject corruption and seek divine guidance. He highlighted greed as a primary instigator of corruption, cautioning against masking corrupt actions as public relations efforts.
Fape pointed out that despite Nigeria’s challenges, including deteriorating infrastructure and struggling educational institutions, there has been a noticeable decrease in incidents of banditry and kidnapping. He praised Abiodun’s development initiatives and encouraged the community to reject divisive politics in favor of unity.
The event underscored the shared responsibility of Nigerians in building a better future for the nation.
