Seun Kuti reacts to reports that he angrily left Peller’s wedding over MC jokes about Fela

Seun Kuti Responds to Wedding Departure Reports

LAGOS—Seun Kuti, the youngest son of celebrated Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, addressed recent speculation surrounding his exit from a wedding ceremony hosted by Peller. Reports emerging on social media suggested that Kuti left the event in anger after a Master of Ceremonies made remarks regarding the contentious topic of whether Nigerian artist Wizkid’s influence surpasses that of his late father.

A video circulating online showed Kuti leaving the venue while expressing, “We are in the wrong place.” This incident ignited discussions among online users, with some accusing Kuti of having anger issues.

In a recent encounter with Fuji artist Malaika at Fela’s Shrine in Lagos, Seun Kuti refuted claims that he departed the wedding in a fit of rage. He clarified that he remained at the event until evening, leaving for a commitment at his father’s shrine around 8:30 p.m.

“I left the Peller wedding about 8:30 p.m. to attend an event at the shrine,” Kuti explained. “There’s an event there that I needed to attend. But bloggers are saying I left angrily. Was I supposed to be dancing when I was in a hurry to get to another event?”

The remark about Wizkid’s stature compared to Fela Kuti originated from an online dispute in January, where Wizkid made a bold statement, igniting a divide among Nigerians, including various celebrities and politicians.
