Senior Legislative Aide Resigns from Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s Office

Abba Aliyu Tilde, the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has resigned, citing a breakdown in mutual respect, communication, and trust in his working relationship with the senator.

Tilde’s resignation, effective immediately, was announced in a letter dated September 6, 2026.

His departure comes amid ongoing allegations that link Senator Buba to banditry and terrorism—claims that the senator has vehemently denied, labeling them as fabricated and politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation. Recently, videos circulated on social media purportedly showing bandit kingpins visiting Buba’s residence, which he has characterized as manipulated evidence. In response, the senator has stated that he is pursuing legal action against those he believes are behind the allegations.

In his resignation letter, Tilde did not specifically accuse Buba of any wrongdoing nor did he directly connect his resignation to the current controversy. Instead, he expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment within the office, mentioning a recent incident where Buba visited his ward for a meeting with residents without prior notification.

“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful,” Tilde wrote, emphasizing the importance of being informed regarding such engagements.

He cited this incident, along with other experiences, as contributing factors that made it impossible for him to continue working effectively. “I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us,” he stated.

Tilde asserted that any professional relationship, especially in public service, should be based on “mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles.” He concluded that he no longer felt these principles were present in his working relationship with Buba.

Describing his resignation as “the most honourable decision” available to him, Tilde expressed a clear conscience, noting he had given his best to the role. He also thanked Buba for the opportunity to serve and wished him success in his future endeavors.
