Shettima woos investors with Delta’s vast economic potential

Vice President Shettima Promotes Delta State as Investment Hub

ASABA – Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday encouraged both local and foreign investors to capitalize on Delta State’s significant economic potential, asserting that healthy competition among states, driven by their unique advantages, is essential for sustainable growth and national development.

Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, Shettima emphasized that each state within Nigeria offers distinct investment opportunities shaped by its geography, history, and available resources.

“Every state in the Federation is defined by the quality and ambition of the investment promise it offers,” Shettima stated. “While each state seeks prosperity, the paths are uniquely shaped by their individual characteristics and comparative advantages.”

He noted that the focus of competition among states should shift from political considerations to attracting investments, creating jobs, and expanding economic prospects. “This is the race we must welcome—a race that embraces growth over conflict,” he said. “The ultimate prizes are employment, prosperity, and dignity for our citizens.”

Shettima praised the Tinubu administration for establishing a robust framework that enables states to strive for development through economic reforms. He reiterated the commitment to place Nigeria on a growth trajectory, remarking that gatherings such as the summit present opportunities for transforming promises into actionable enterprises.

Highlighting Delta’s diverse resources, Shettima stated that the state possesses advantages beyond its oil wealth. “Delta State enters this moment with an advantage that extends beyond a single commodity,” he said. “Diversification is not merely an economic strategy; it is essential for preservation and a measure of effective leadership.”

He further pointed out that Delta has one of the longest coastlines in Nigeria, abundant natural gas, ports, power resources, rich agricultural potential, and an educated workforce, making it a prime destination for investment. “What remains is for the world to be informed of these advantages,” he added.

Describing the summit as a crucial platform for translating opportunities into tangible investments, Shettima remarked, “Potential has no economic value unless organized, financed, and actively utilized. Natural wealth underground cannot employ a young person. Talent without opportunity leads to frustration.”

He assured attendees that the Federal Government would continue to support credible investments and collaborate with the Delta State Government to strengthen institutions and eliminate barriers to enterprise.
