Rufai Oseni Challenges NRS Chairman’s Comments on Fuel Subsidy
Rufai Oseni, an anchor at Arise Television, has questioned the assertions made by Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), regarding the impact of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria.
In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Adedeji praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, stating that it could have cost the nation N53 trillion. He claimed that without this intervention, the naira-to-dollar exchange rate could have surged to N3,500.
Adedeji further indicated that monthly allocations to states increased by 530 percent, rising to N4.5 trillion from approximately N700 billion.
Oseni reacted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive analysis. He urged Adedeji to provide data on revenue losses incurred by Nigerians due to an inflation rate of 15.91 percent in June 2026.
“If the NRS chief claims the subsidy would have exceeded N50 trillion, can he also detail the revenue lost to inflation to balance the argument?” Oseni posted.
This debate follows previous criticisms directed at Adedeji for his remarks about President Tinubu’s lifestyle, which many found contentious.
