‘Superhuman’ star’s heart-breaking reaction to disaster

Brisbane star Ezra Mam has described his “speechless” reaction to the Broncos’ grand final heartbreak after the five-eighth almost single-handedly delivered victory.

Mam’s brilliant hat-trick placed one hand on the NRL premiership trophy and the Clive Churchill medal, however Nathan Cleary’s brilliant final 20 minutes soon flipped the game on its head.

Post-match, a dejected Mam was unable to articulate how he was feeling.

“Just speechless, honestly,” he told 9news.

“We let this hurt, like last year, and hopefully we can go again next year.”

The 20-year-old added his hat-trick “didn’t really matter” after the capitulation.

“It was a pretty special moment, but in saying that,it didn’t really matter. We didn’t get the win,” he said.

Mam, who is believed to be on $240,000-a-season, will enter the open market on November 1 if the Broncos can’t re-sign him before then.

The five-eighth has been a revelation for the side since debuting in 2022 and came away with the five-eighth of the year award on Dally M medal night.

As he looks to lock down his rising star, coach Kevin Walters was full of praise post-match for the playmaker.

“Superhuman wasn’t it from Ezra,” he said.

“We know he’s a talented little player, he showed that tonight on the big stage, what sort of talent he’s got.”
