Eight Students Abducted from Nasarawa State University

Eight students from the Faculty of Engineering at Nasarawa State University were abducted on Wednesday night by armed individuals. The incident occurred at an off-campus residence in Gudi, located in the Akwanga Local Government Area.

According to police reports, the students were taken from a lodge in Anguwar Ninzo around 9 p.m. Local authorities received a distress call alerting them to the attack. SP Ramhan Nansel, spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, confirmed that six students and a friend of one of the victims were affected; however, the identity of the latter has not yet been established.

Nansel noted that efforts are underway to secure the students’ release. Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed visited the location for an assessment and provided reassurance to the affected students and the community.

To enhance rescue operations, the area commander in Akwanga has been redeployed to coordinate efforts. A combined security team—including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the military, and other local units—has been assembled to locate the abductors and secure the safe return of the victims. Authorities remain committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
