Tanker crushes dispatch rider to death in Lagos

Dispatch Rider Killed in Lagos Road Accident

A dispatch rider died in a road accident along the Motorways inward Estate axis of Alapere, Lagos, after being struck by a high-speed tanker.

Preliminary reports indicate that the tanker, identified as “NIPCO” and registered under the number TTN-776ZQ, collided with the rider, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded promptly, working to manage the situation as other dispatch riders gathered and confronted the tanker driver.

LASTMA personnel intervened to assist the injured driver, who was subsequently taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service for medical care.

Police from the Alausa Division were dispatched to restore order and disperse the crowd.

In response to the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged all motorists, particularly tanker drivers, to comply with traffic regulations.

“This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and collective responsibility among all road users to safeguard lives,” Bakare-Oki stated.

The tanker and the remains of the damaged motorcycle have been taken into police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
