Tems Becomes First Female African Artist to Achieve Diamond Certification in the U.S.
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has made history as the first female African artist to earn a Diamond single in the United States.
Her collaborative hit, “Wait For U,” featuring Future and Drake, was recently certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales exceeding 10 million units in the country.
Music monitoring platform Chart Data reported that the song has now sold over 11 million units in the U.S. “US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000),” the platform announced on X on Friday.
Tems now joins Nigerian artist Wizkid as one of only two African artists to receive a Diamond certification in the U.S. Wizkid achieved this milestone through his collaboration with Drake on the song “One Dance.”
