Coronavirus is a family of virus that causes illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. This virus was originally transmitted between animals and people.

The virus is believed to have originated from a seafood market in Wuhan where wildlife was also traded illegally.

The symptoms of this deadly virus can include a cough, possibly with a fever and shortness of breath.

There are some early reports of non-respiratory symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea.

Many people recover within a few days. However, some people, especially the very young, elderly, or people who have a weakened immune system may develop a more serious infection, such as bronchitis or pneumonia.

Currently, there are no approved antivirals for this particular coronavirus, so treatment is largely supportive for now.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, especially people exhibiting respiratory symptoms and fever.
  • Stay home when you’re sick.
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean surfaces, such as countertops and doorknobs, with a disinfectant.
