Tinubu govt cornered N250bn NLNG dividends meant for states – Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of misappropriating dividends from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) payments, which were intended for state governments.

During a stakeholders’ meeting on the 2027 budget at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan on Friday, Makinde stated that each state was expected to receive over N250 billion from these NLNG payments.

The governor criticized the government’s plan to delay payments until after the 2027 elections, asserting that the welfare of citizens should take precedence over political considerations.

“They misled us,” Makinde said. “The Nigeria LNG paid dividends to the Federal Government, which went directly into the Federation Account, but they used those funds for their own purposes.”

He elaborated that while a consultancy was conducted to reconcile the figures and determine the amount owed to each state, the federal government ultimately retained the funds for itself.

“Each state should receive more than N250 billion, but Tinubu managed to redirect it. We had identified projects for investment that would further stimulate the economy of Oyo State,” Makinde added.
