‘Tinubu will still face people who lived through his failures’ – Atiku

ADC Presidential Candidate Criticizes Tinubu’s Campaign Strategy

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Tinubu’s response to Nigeria’s economic challenges and insecurity, asserting that the President cannot evade public judgment by aligning with influential political figures.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Phrank Shaibu, the Director of Strategic Communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku remarked that the recent expansion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council would not alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians nor ensure Tinubu’s re-election.

The former vice president expressed disapproval of the inauguration of the APC campaign council at the Presidential Villa, calling it an inappropriate use of public resources for partisan purposes.

Atiku emphasized that an increase in political representation within the campaign council would not alter the public’s perception of the current administration. “Only a man afraid of his record would think he could bury it under hundreds of names. None of them can erase the hunger in people’s homes, bring back those killed by violence, or free Nigerians still held captive,” he stated.

He questioned the necessity of an enlarged campaign apparatus at a time when many citizens are grappling with rising costs of living and insecurity. Instead, he urged the President to prioritize addressing the challenges facing the populace over creating political alliances for the upcoming general election.

Addressing the use of the Presidential Villa for campaign activities, Atiku asserted that the facility belongs to all Nigerians and should not be utilized for party-specific events.

Atiku pointed to a reported increase of 17.9 million Nigerians living in multidimensional poverty, connecting this statistic to the difficulties under Tinubu’s leadership. He highlighted the combination of economic hardship and insecurity as factors that have exacerbated the struggles of many citizens, insisting that the government will be held accountable for its record in front of voters.

Furthermore, he indicated that the ADC is in the process of organizing its campaign team to challenge the APC, maintaining that political endorsements cannot outweigh the lived experiences of ordinary Nigerians. “No crowd of politicians can stand between a President and his abysmal record. Tinubu can surround himself with every political heavyweight in Nigeria; on election day, he will still face the people who lived through his failures,” Atiku concluded.
