Tracka Raises Alarm Over Majaga Primary Health Care Centre Conditions
TOTO, Nasarawa State — Tracka, a public expenditure monitoring organization, has highlighted serious issues regarding the Majaga Primary Health Care Centre in the Toto Local Government Area. The group warns that the deteriorating state of the facility jeopardizes the health of thousands of residents reliant on its basic medical services.
Following a recent monitoring visit, Tracka emphasized that the Majaga Health Centre is the sole government-owned medical facility serving the Majaga community. The organization found the centre lacking essential amenities such as potable water, laboratory services, pharmacy access, and an injection room.
Additionally, Tracka reported that both the labor and consulting rooms are in disrepair. The health centre has insufficient beds and lacks proper wards and accommodations for healthcare professionals, further compounding the challenges faced by patients.
Residents, particularly pregnant women and those requiring immediate medical care, could face severe consequences due to the facility’s inadequate conditions, Tracka asserted.
The organization has called on the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, to take immediate action. They urged for urgent rehabilitation, equipment, and enhancements to the health centre.
Tracka added that access to functional primary healthcare is crucial, especially in rural areas where residents often face limited alternatives when government facilities are unable to provide basic services.
Concerns regarding the centre’s condition have been voiced by residents of Majaga and surrounding communities for some time, with demands for increased government investment in rural healthcare infrastructure.
