Troops arrest five suspected militia members, recover firearm in Benue
Five Suspected Militia Members Arrested in Benue State Operation
Troops from Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) arrested five suspected militia members and seized a firearm during a clearance operation in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on July 17.
The operation, which took place at approximately 8:00 a.m., involved personnel from the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Otukpo and Oju. The troops targeted suspected militia hideouts located in the Otukpo-Nobi, Amichio, and Amula Forest areas.
During the operation, the forces recovered a locally fabricated Dane gun and five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Additionally, the troops demolished identified militia camps to prevent future use by the suspects and their affiliates.
The detained suspects are currently in military custody for preliminary investigations. Security forces continue their efforts to locate and apprehend additional members of the suspected criminal network in the region.
