Nigerian Troops Arrest Suspected ISWAP Informant in Yobe State

Nigerian military forces conducting Operation HADIN KAI apprehended a suspected informant for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a stop-and-search operation in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Monday.

The arrest was reported on Tuesday by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region. According to security sources, the suspect was intercepted along the Buni Gari–Buni Yadi road during a routine patrol.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect was found with injuries believed to have been sustained from prior encounters with security personnel. During preliminary questioning, the individual reportedly stated that he had moved from Ganjarma village to a location along the Bara road axis, where he had resided for approximately 10 days before his capture.

A security source noted, “A preliminary assessment suggests the suspect may have links with ISWAP/JAS elements operating in the general area, and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement.” The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing further interrogation.
