Nigerian Troops Conduct Operations, Eliminate Eight Suspected Terrorists

Nigerian military forces involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA have reported the elimination of eight suspected terrorists and the rescue of three individuals kidnapped by these groups during operations in Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.

The operations took place on October 24 and 25, resulting in the recovery of significant materials, including an AK-47 rifle, three locally made firearms, three motorcycles, cutlasses, and various charms believed to be used in rituals.

Captain Tamuno Sinivie, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, provided details regarding the encounters. He noted that two suspected terrorists were killed during a mission near Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State. Troops responded to a distress call from local farmers reporting terrorist activities in the vicinity. During the engagement, the military forces confronted the suspected terrorists, resulting in two deaths while others fled the scene.

In his statement, Captain Sinivie confirmed the rescue of a 42-year-old man, Suleiman Umar, who had been kidnapped by the group. The operation yielded an AK-47 rifle, associated ammunition, and a motorcycle.

Separately, troops from Sector One, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), killed six additional suspected terrorists while thwarting an ambush in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The operation was prompted by reports of an attack on Ungwan Mallami village, where two individuals had been abducted. The troops, responding to the call for assistance, faced an attack while pursuing the assailants but managed to engage effectively, killing six terrorists while others escaped.

During this engagement, three locally fabricated firearms, two motorcycles, cutlasses, and various charms were recovered from the abandoned site.

Meanwhile, troops from Sector Two in Zamfara State successfully rescued two kidnapped individuals during a surveillance mission in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area. The rescued men, identified as 40-year-old Shehu Chete and 25-year-old Bugu Bedi, both from Kebbi State, were found after the assailants fled upon sighting the troops.

Following their rescue, the victims were transported to Bagega Clinic for medical treatment before being moved to a military facility for further evaluation and eventual reunion with their families.

The task force has stated that ongoing patrols and search operations will continue in affected regions in order to apprehend fugitive suspects, rescue additional abductees, and prevent future attacks.

The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their bravery and urged community members to assist military efforts by providing timely and credible information regarding any suspicious activities in their areas.
