Nigerian Army Troops Target Terrorists in Yobe State
GEIDAM, Yobe State — Troops from the Nigerian Army conducted an operation in Geidam Local Government Area on October 5, 2026, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist and the apprehension of another. During the operation, soldiers also recovered an AK-47 rifle.
In a statement released on Monday, the Army reported that the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding the activities of terrorist groups in the area. Troops from the 159 Battalion, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), quickly mobilized to the designated location.
The Army’s statement detailed that the soldiers engaged the terrorists in an encounter, during which one was neutralized and another was captured. Several other individuals reportedly fled the scene with likely gunshot injuries.
After the encounter, troops continued to investigate the surrounding area, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle along with a magazine. The statement indicated that efforts were underway to track down the fleeing terrorists to prevent any chance of regrouping or further violent activities.
The Army emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations and rapid response, citing these factors as crucial in disrupting terrorist actions. They reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist and criminal elements while collaborating with local security organizations and communities to enhance safety and stability in affected regions.
