Nigerian Troops Neutralize Armed Bandits in Taraba State
DONGA, Taraba State — Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army’s Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) neutralized two suspected armed bandits during a tactical operation on May 24, 2026, in Donga Local Government Area.
The operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports of gunfire near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District. According to a statement released on Monday by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, troops quickly mobilized to the area and conducted a tactical raid on the suspected hideout.
Upon arrival, the troops encountered armed assailants, resulting in a gunfight that led to the elimination of two suspects.
Recovered items from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal belongings.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism and quick response during the operation. He urged soldiers to maintain their operational momentum, emphasizing the directive from the Chief of Army Staff to eliminate criminal activities in the state.
Akaliro also noted that the military’s reward and sanction policy would be applicable to the troops involved in this successful mission. He reassured residents of Taraba State of the army’s ongoing commitment to combatting criminal elements and restoring peace and security throughout the region.
