Nigerian Army Recovers Heavy Weaponry in Borno State Operation
Borno State, Nigeria — Troops from the Nigerian Army, engaged in Operation Hadin Kai, have recovered an anti-aircraft machine gun and a cache of ammunition during a recent operation against insurgents.
The recovery was reported on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via social media. According to military sources, the incident occurred on April 21, 2026, during a follow-up operation in Nanewa village, where troops had engaged and neutralized several terrorists in a firefight.
During a mop-up operation along the withdrawal route of fleeing insurgents, the soldiers discovered the heavy weapon alongside numerous rounds of 7.62×54mm ammunition. The sources indicated that the equipment was likely abandoned by the insurgents during the confrontation.
Additionally, traces of blood were found along the escape route, suggesting that some insurgents may have sustained injuries in the earlier clash. Military officials confirmed that the recovered weapons and ammunition have been secured for further analysis and documentation.
