Truck and Bus Collision in Lagos Leaves Four Dead, Multiple Injured
EPE, Lagos State — A tragic collision on the Alaro City Bridge resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left 13 passengers critically injured. The accident, involving a truck and a fully loaded commercial bus, occurred on Wednesday at T-Junction.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck collided with the bus on the single-lane bridge, causing extensive damage and trapping several victims in the wreckage. Among the deceased is the driver of the commercial bus. The truck driver sustained severe injuries, including the traumatic loss of both legs, which became trapped in the mangled vehicle.
In a statement, LASTMA indicated that their operatives, with assistance from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), worked to evacuate the bodies of the deceased to a morgue. The Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the 13 critically injured passengers to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.
Epe Police Division security personnel were present at the scene to ensure an orderly rescue operation. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy, calling the loss of life “profoundly distressing.”
Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations, particularly on bridges and narrow roads, where reckless behavior can lead to catastrophic results.
In response to the incident, LASTMA has implemented traffic management measures along the affected route to alleviate congestion and restore normal vehicle movement. Authority personnel remain on-site to oversee traffic flow and assist with the backlog.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to road safety and the prompt response to traffic incidents through collaboration with emergency response and security agencies. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, maintain safe distances, observe speed limits, and avoid dangerous driving maneuvers to prevent future accidents.
