Trump mourns Dolly Parton, orders US flags lowered to half-mast
President Donald Trump ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday in memory of country music legend Dolly Parton, who passed away at the age of 80.
Parton’s family announced her death in a video statement posted on social media the same day.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed condolences for the loss, stating that Parton’s passing was felt by millions. “Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, has just passed away,” he wrote. “This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and there never will be.”
Trump also stated that in her honor, he would lower the American flag across the United States for one week, beginning at 6:00 p.m. that evening. He concluded with a tribute, saying, “Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”
Dolly Parton was known for her extensive songwriting, with iconic tracks such as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Throughout her career, she sold over 100 million records worldwide and accumulated more than 1 billion online streams.
Parton’s background as one of 12 children in a financially challenged family in Tennessee played a significant role in shaping her music and public persona.
