Guilfoyle Resigns as U.S. Ambassador Amid Misconduct Allegations

The White House announced on Tuesday that Kimberly Guilfoyle has been asked to resign from her position as U.S. ambassador to Greece following multiple allegations of misconduct. Reports indicate that Guilfoyle allegedly solicited funds from political donors in exchange for access to senior administration officials.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia stated, “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”

The call for her resignation follows a series of damaging reports concerning her conduct. According to The Wall Street Journal, Guilfoyle sought a political donor to cover a $100,000 credit card bill shortly before her congressional confirmation hearing. In exchange, she purportedly offered access to U.S. officials.

Additionally, the report claims that Guilfoyle made remarks at a reception suggesting she could leverage U.S. influence to affect the Greek government, promoted the interests of a Greek construction and energy firm, and permitted one of its lobbyists to attend private diplomatic meetings.

Guilfoyle’s legal team has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the funds sought were payment for previously unremunerated speaking engagements.

President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that he was contemplating her removal from the position, stating, “Well, we’re looking at it. We’re not happy.”

Initially, Secretary of State Marco Rubio backed Guilfoyle, referring to her as a “strong ambassador,” but he later refrained from commenting on the allegations and criticized reporters who pressed for details.

Guilfoyle is a former Fox News host and has a background as a prosecutor in California. She has previously been married to California Governor Gavin Newsom and was engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
