Turkey: ‘Our defenders will neutralise him’ – Fenerbahçe’s Muriqi warns Osimhen ahead of Galatasaray clash
Fenerbahçe forward Vedat Muriqi has issued a challenge to Victor Osimhen ahead of their upcoming match against Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig. Muriqi emphasized that Osimhen should not expect an easy game, asserting that Fenerbahçe’s defense is prepared to contain the Nigerian striker during the Monday derby at Rams Park.
Osimhen has a strong record in previous encounters with Fenerbahçe, remaining undefeated across five official matches since joining Galatasaray. Throughout these matches, he has secured two wins and two draws, along with a single goal in four league appearances.
During the 2024-25 season’s Türkiye Cup quarterfinals, Osimhen played a crucial role, scoring twice to help Galatasaray earn a 2-1 victory over Fenerbahçe.
Acknowledging Osimhen’s talent, Muriqi expressed confidence in his team’s capabilities. “He’s a very strong and good player, but I trust my teammates,” Muriqi told beIN Sport, according to Turk Inform. “I think our defensive line can neutralize Osimhen’s quickness and gain the upper hand.”
In recent matches, Osimhen has struggled to find the net, failing to score in his last two Turkish Süper Lig games, although Galatasaray secured victories against Kasımpaşa and Gençlerbirliği. He did, however, end his goal drought with a score against his former club Lille in the UEFA Champions League.
