Viral video on poor education funding doctored- Kebbi NUT

The Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has condemned a viral video that claims the state suffers from inadequate educational funding and poor teacher remuneration.

In a statement released on Monday, NUT Chairman Zaki Sarki characterized the video as old, edited, and misleading, asserting that it fails to accurately represent the current state of education in Kebbi.

Sarki emphasized that the claims made in the video do not align with recent advancements in both teacher welfare and educational infrastructure. He noted that the state government has recently raised the minimum wage for teachers to N75,000 and cited ongoing efforts such as the construction of schools and classrooms, the recruitment of additional teachers, and the provision of educational materials.

The NUT chairman urged the public to verify information about the education sector before forming conclusions and rejected the portrayal presented in the video. He also reaffirmed the union’s commitment to engaging with the government on matters impacting teachers and to actively working towards enhancements in the educational landscape of the state.
