‘We’re suffering from this government’ – ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Yobe protesters

Hundreds of young people gathered in Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, on October 1 to participate in a peaceful protest labeled “Tinubu Must Go.” The demonstration coincided with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and highlighted dissatisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent Independence Day broadcast, which protesters felt failed to address their concerns.
Marching through the Tsohowar Kasuwa area, participants carried placards and flags representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The protesters voiced their grievances about economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and what they characterized as poor leadership since the current administration took office in 2023.
One protester, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed frustration with the government. “We are suffering under this administration. People are dying due to insecurity, poverty, and unemployment,” the individual stated.
Another participant, identifying with the opposition, emphasized the discontent surrounding the nation’s economy and education system. Eyewitnesses reported that the protest was conducted peacefully and in an orderly fashion, with many young men and women actively participating. Malam Gambo, a protester, told reporters that the demonstration was intended to draw attention to issues of bad governance, hunger, and insecurity affecting the youth.
