‘Who ordered the shootings’ — Sowore demands prosecution over Lekki Toll Gate incident

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the shootings at Lekki Toll Gate during the EndSARS protests. He questioned the prolonged wait for justice, six years after the tragic events.
In a post on X, Sowore highlighted the anniversary of the protests on October 20, demanding answers about who ordered the shootings and why no one has yet been held accountable. “Where are the killers? Who ordered the shootings at Lekki Toll Gate? Who has been prosecuted?” he wrote.
Sowore also urged for investigations into the involvement of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, along with military and police commanders, and others he alleges are linked to the incident.
The candidate emphasized that the EndSARS protests represented a broader fight against police brutality, torture, extortion, and extrajudicial killings, beyond the initial call to disband the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. He pledged that if elected in 2027, his administration would reopen investigations into the Lekki Toll Gate incident, establish a clear chain of command, and ensure that anyone found culpable would face prosecution, regardless of their rank or political connections.
