Why I plan to buy back my music masters – Davido

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has announced plans to acquire his music masters from Sony, his foreign record label, before his retirement.
In a recent episode of The Long Form podcast, Davido underscored the significance of ownership within the music industry. He expressed his intention to buy back his masters and secure his music royalties for his children upon retiring.
“I have a good music contract. But the most important thing is ownership. I plan to get my masters back from Sony soon. With that, I can give each of my kids songs they will keep earning royalties from even after I retire,” Davido stated.
He further emphasized the need for artists to regard the business aspects of music as a serious consideration.
