Headies Awards to Be Hosted in Toronto, Canada
The organizers of the Headies Awards have announced that the 18th edition will take place in Toronto, Canada. This marks the second time the event has been held outside Nigeria, with the previous instance occurring in 2022 when the 15th edition was hosted in Atlanta.
During “The Big Announcement” event on Monday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Headies founder Ayo Animashaun explained that the decision to move the awards ceremony was largely driven by economic considerations.
Animashaun stated that while the main event will occur in Toronto, a live watch party will take place in Lagos, allowing Nigerian fans to engage in the festivities and view parts of the award presentation as it unfolds abroad.
“Someone said, ‘Ayo, you are taking the Headies out of the country again,’” Animashaun recounted. “But the reality is that we need to find a sustainable way to fund this event. The solution is to host a watch party in Lagos.”
The 18th Headies is set to continue the tradition of celebrating outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry, fostering connections between fans both locally and internationally.
