Wike orders immediate closure of illegal car lots in FCT green areas

Wike Orders Closure of Illegal Car Dealerships in Abuja’s Green Spaces

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has mandated the immediate closure of illegal car dealerships operating in designated green areas, parks, and gardens throughout Abuja.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike emphasized the need to protect recreational spaces. He raised concerns regarding the conversion of areas intended for parks and leisure into car lots, specifically citing locations such as the Millennium Park.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by the FCT Administration to mitigate flooding issues in certain areas of the Federal Capital City. As part of the enforcement measures, Wike announced the formation of a task force responsible for monitoring compliance with the directive.

Additionally, Wike has ordered an investigation into civil servants who may have issued illegal approvals for the use of green areas as car dealership lots. The affected officials, particularly those in charge of Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management, and Urban Affairs, have been summoned to clarify their involvement in granting these approvals.

The inquiry will be overseen by Nancy Sabanti Nathan, the FCT Head of the Civil Service.
