Nigerian Comedian Criticizes Gospel Singer’s Apology on Security Remarks
Nigerian reality star and comedian DeeOne has publicly criticized gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori following her recent apology concerning remarks on national security.
During a live prayer session, Alaseyori stated that the Nigerian government is actively addressing security issues and urged citizens to pray for President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies. Her comments came amid public outcry over the abduction of several schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
In response to the backlash, Alaseyori issued a public apology to Nigerians via video on Wednesday.
DeeOne reacted sharply to Alaseyori’s apology, suggesting she had succumbed to external pressures and expressed concern that Alaseyori had forsaken divine inspiration for public approval. “You were in the spirit when you made those statements, but you lost an opportunity to evangelize,” DeeOne remarked.
He questioned whether Alaseyori had sought divine guidance before issuing her apology and emphasized the importance of remaining true to one’s spiritual convictions despite public scrutiny. DeeOne added, “Pressure made you apologize. You have to displease God to please men, and there would be spiritual repercussions.”
He further advised Alaseyori against compromising her message due to fear of public backlash, urging her to rely on faith and spiritual guidance in the face of criticism.
DeeOne’s comments reflect a broader conversation regarding the intersection of faith, public opinion, and the responsibilities of public figures in Nigeria.
