Nigerian Army Arrests Three Suspected Arms Dealers in Abia State
Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, operating under the banner of Operation Eastern Sanity II, have arrested three individuals suspected of arms dealing in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. The operation, conducted in the early hours of June 7, 2026, resulted in the recovery of various weapons and ammunition.
The details were provided in a press release by Mazinho Attah, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 14 Brigade, based in Ohafia, Abia State. The operation involved personnel from the 14 Brigade Garrison and the 14 Military Intelligence Regiment, who executed a cordon-and-search mission in the Amaetiti Iheshiowa community, collaborating with other security agencies.
The operation was initiated following credible intelligence regarding the distribution of firearms in the area. The arrested suspects have been identified as Francis Ifere, 37; Oso Kalu, 40; and Ifere Oti, 32.
Among the items seized during the operation are seven locally fabricated Dane guns, 22 live cartridges, a motorcycle, and a bus belonging to a man identified as Stephen Kalu, who allegedly fled the scene prior to the arrival of troops.
In addition, the press release noted that military personnel across various battalion areas are maintaining night patrols and conducting routine security operations to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
