2026 World Cup: Trump reveals why England lost to Argentina in semi-final

Trump Critiques Coach Following World Cup Loss

NEW YORK — President Donald Trump has expressed discontent with England manager Thomas Tuchel after the team’s 2-1 defeat to England in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup.

The match saw England take the lead in the second half with a goal from Anthony Gordon. However, the defending champions equalized in the 85th minute when Enzo Fernandez took advantage of space outside the box to score. Lautaro Martinez then secured the victory for England with a header in the 92nd minute.

In remarks made during a FIFA reception at Trump Tower, Trump criticized Tuchel’s strategy, suggesting that it was a misstep to have players, particularly star forward Harry Kane, adopt a defensive posture.

“You have a great player in England who I played golf with. Harry (Kane). I think they perhaps made a mistake when they made him a defensive player,” Trump said. He added, “What do I know? They took their best player and then put him on defense. What do I know about coaching?”

As the tournament progresses, the implications of strategic decisions such as these will continue to be scrutinized.
