2027: Provide level playing ground for all political parties, – Otti orders security agencies
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has directed all security agencies in the state to ensure that political parties can conduct their activities and campaigns without interference.
Governor Otti issued the directive during the monthly State Security Council Meeting, where officials reviewed the current security landscape in Abia.
Following the meeting, Commissioner of Police for Abia State, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (Retd.), emphasized their commitment to facilitating smooth political campaigns and elections in 2027.
“We just concluded a meeting chaired by the Executive Governor of Abia State, where various matters were discussed, particularly in relation to the upcoming elections,” CP Afolabi said. “His Excellency has clarified our responsibilities, emphasizing the need for a level playing field for all political parties.”
The governor also instructed that any political party seeking permission to hold a campaign should receive prompt approval, thereby alleviating some procedural burdens for security agencies.
Regarding the readiness of law enforcement for the 2027 election cycle, CP Afolabi noted that a recent three-day Regional Police Retreat in Imo State, led by the Inspector-General of Police, has equipped his command with strategies for a peaceful election period.
Echoing this sentiment, Navy Commander Ubah stated, “Governor Otti has authorized that all political parties wishing to campaign should not face any obstacles, provided they fulfill the necessary payment requirements for public venue use.”
He added that with the implementation of a fair playing field for all parties, there should be minimal opportunity for disruptive behavior.
Ubah warned that any actions threatening public peace would be addressed according to the law.
