Emergency Flight Evacuates Nigerians from South Africa

LAGOS, Nigeria — Thirty-nine Nigerians are returning home from South Africa on an emergency flight organized by Air Peace in collaboration with the Federal Government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the flight in a statement released on Friday, signed by spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa. This flight was arranged to assist Nigerians who were unable to board the evacuation flight that took place on Thursday.

The ministry emphasized that the additional flight was an effort to ensure that all Nigerians who had completed their travel documentation by the designated deadline could return without delay. According to the release, the flight is scheduled to arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at approximately 8:50 PM on Friday.

The ministry acknowledged Air Peace for its role in facilitating the evacuation process. Furthermore, officials indicated that another flight is anticipated to take place next week, with plans to bring approximately 300 additional Nigerians back from South Africa.

In light of ongoing xenophobic incidents in South Africa, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians affected by these events.
