ASABA — Senator Ned Nwoko has announced his intention to seek reelection for the Delta North Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 election. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Asaba Airport on Friday, Nwoko expressed confidence in his ability to secure the seat, citing his record of service and the support of the Anioma community.
Accompanied by former Deputy Senate President Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Nwoko emphasized that while the race may be competitive, he believes the Anioma people will choose his continued leadership over “olden days politics.”
“I want to announce publicly that I am returning to the 11th Senate on behalf of the Anioma people, Delta North,” Nwoko declared. He asserted that his tenure has effectively addressed the concerns of his constituents.
“I’ve done well as a senator and spoken fearlessly on behalf of the people. I stand for the people all the time. The people of Anioma know who I am and I know their problems,” he added.
Nwoko also reaffirmed his support for the creation of an Anioma state, citing a public endorsement from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who mentioned that the capital would be located in Asaba.
Regarding his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nwoko stated, “The President is my President. I joined him before anybody else because I believe in him. He’s doing very well nationally.”
When asked about the competitive nature of the upcoming election, he acknowledged the open contest and expressed readiness to engage with challengers. “It’s a contest. Everybody is free to contest. And so we’re ready. And we shall see,” he said.
Addressing his supporters, Nwoko urged them to continue supporting his agenda. “This is no time to go back to the politics of the old days. This is a time to build on what I’ve established, which is working for the people,” he said, highlighting initiatives such as infrastructure development, energy access, and educational empowerment.
Following his announcement, Nwoko and Omo-Agege attended the funeral of former Delta State Deputy Governor Chief Benjamin Elue.
