Driver Dies in Lagos Roadside Crash
A female driver was killed when her Toyota Sienna veered off the road and collided with a building in Mongoro, near Ile-Zik, Lagos. The incident occurred on Sunday, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver, whose vehicle bore the registration number LND 162 HB, lost control before the accident. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, which resulted in her immediate death.
LASTMA personnel, who were on routine patrol in the area, quickly arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the accident. Officers secured the site by setting up safety cones and managing traffic to prevent congestion and further incidents while recovery efforts were underway.
Although the accident temporarily disrupted traffic flow, LASTMA reported that normal vehicular movement was restored within a short period, thanks to the prompt actions of its officers. The Afonka Police Post from the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters also provided security during the emergency response.
In a statement, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki described the accident as a grim reminder of the risks associated with excessive speeding and reckless driving. He emphasized that speed limits serve as critical safety measures intended to protect all road users from preventable accidents.
“Every journey should be undertaken with caution, patience, and adherence to traffic regulations. No destination justifies the loss of life,” Bakare-Oki stated. He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before hitting the road, advising that any signs of fault should lead to immediate repairs.
LASTMA extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, expressing hope that they find the strength to cope with their loss.
