2027: ADC tells Tinubu why he should be worried

ADC Raises Concerns Over Tinubu’s Remarks

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a statement in response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assertion that he remains unfazed by opposition groups. The ADC outlined several reasons it believes the president should be concerned as the 2027 elections approach.

The party characterized Tinubu’s comments as indicative of anxiety rather than confidence, referencing deteriorating economic and security situations across Nigeria.

“What Nigerians witnessed was not the assurance of a leader in command, but the anxiety of a president increasingly detached from the harsh realities faced by millions,” the ADC stated.

The ADC accused the president of prioritizing political rhetoric over the urgent issues confronting the nation. “At a time when families contend with a historic cost-of-living crisis, food inflation, escalating debt, and diminishing purchasing power, the President opted to deride the opposition instead of addressing the suffering of Nigerians,” it added.

The party highlighted recent incidents of insecurity, including reports of abductions, to emphasize its concerns. “While he spoke, reports of children being kidnapped from examination centers were emerging. This reflects the growing insecurity encroaching on daily life while the government appears distracted,” the ADC remarked.

According to the ADC, these issues contribute to an increasingly precarious political landscape for the president. “These are the reasons he should be worried, as the populace is determined to vote him out,” the party asserted.

In addition, the ADC defended its national convention against claims of irregularities, asserting that the event was conducted appropriately. “We did not hold our convention on the street. If misinformation has reached the President from agents of disruption, then he has been misled,” it stated.

The party also condemned alleged restrictions on democratic engagement, claiming that opposition parties have faced obstacles in accessing public venues. “No previous government has denied political parties fair access to public venues such as Eagle Square, which belongs to all Nigerians,” the statement read.

Moreover, the ADC criticized perceived executive overreach, stating that the president cannot preach the separation of powers while also serving as an interpreter of the law, a political referee, and a commentator on judicial matters. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot simultaneously hold the roles of president and judge,” the party concluded.

The ADC emphasized that Nigeria’s challenges continue to escalate, stating that “hardship is rising, insecurity is worsening, debt is mounting, and hope is fading,” while reiterating its commitment to providing an alternative platform for Nigerians in the lead-up to the next general election.
