FCT: Police kick off assessment of officers’ mental health, others

FCT Police Command Initiates Comprehensive Medical Assessments for Officers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a comprehensive medical assessment initiative for its personnel, as announced by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi. The exercise commenced recently at the Maitama Area Command and will expand to include all officers across the territory.

In a briefing with journalists following his observation of the assessments, Sanusi emphasized the importance of evaluating the health and stress levels of command personnel. He stated that the initiative aims to enhance overall performance within the force.

“This process will ensure that every officer is routinely assessed,” Sanusi said. He outlined plans for continuous medical evaluations that encompass a broad range of health indicators for the officers of the FCT Command.

The commissioner also highlighted the significance of evaluating mental health and stress levels, noting that medical professionals would provide guidance based on the assessments. “This will be an ongoing effort, and we encourage officers to also seek private medical evaluations,” he added.

Sanusi assured that a second screening will take place once the initial phase concludes, recognizing the potential for sudden changes in health. “Medical issues can arise unexpectedly. It is essential for continuous monitoring,” he said.

He further emphasized the confidentiality of the assessment results, stating that the exercise is not intended to penalize or humiliate officers. Instead, he seeks to promote well-being within the ranks. Officers were cautioned against disclosing their medical reports and advised to remain calm during the assessment process to ensure accurate evaluations.
