Jigawa State Police Arrest Multiple Suspects in Theft Investigations
JIGAWA, Nigeria — The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of several suspects linked to theft, shopbreaking, and possession of suspected stolen property within the state.
These arrests resulted from a series of intelligence-led operations carried out by police operatives in various locations. Authorities reported the recovery of a tricycle, two motorcycles, and 11 Android mobile phones during these operations.
In a statement released Friday, Assistant Superintendent of Police Lawal Shi’isu, the police’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the arrest of three suspects for possessing stolen motorcycles identified as Royal and Boxer models. The suspects include 30-year-old Abubakar Ya’u and 28-year-old Aminu Ya’u, both from Dantanoma Quarters in Gumel Local Government Area, and 25-year-old Abdullahi Bala from Garbagar Village in Guri Local Government Area.
Additionally, police arrested 31-year-old Anas Nuhu from Jobe Village in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State. Nuhu was allegedly found with a tricycle, registration number MDB 478 QE and Union number GWL 1842, which is suspected to have been stolen from a park in Tofa LGA. During questioning, Nuhu reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicle.
The Jigawa State Police confirmed that this case has been referred to the courts, along with other completed investigations involving the suspects, who are also expected to be prosecuted.
In a separate incident, 18-year-old Mamman Adamu from Tutiyari Village in Kirikasamma LGA was arrested following reports of a shop burglary in Birniwa. Adamu is allegedly connected to the theft of 11 Android phones, all of which were recovered by law enforcement. He is also expected to be charged in court after further investigations.
Commissioner of Police Tijjani Murtala commended the officers for their professionalism and vigilance during these operations. He reaffirmed the police command’s dedication to protecting lives and property in Jigawa State and encouraged residents to provide timely and credible information to help combat crime.
