ISWAP fighter surrenders to troops in Borno

A suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) surrendered to soldiers from the 192 Battalion in Gwoza Local Government Area on May 7. The incident occurred around 12:35 p.m. while troops were conducting picketing along the Gwoza–Limankara road.

According to security sources, the suspect reported that he escaped from the Drume terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains region. Upon surrendering, he was found in possession of 3,500 naira.

The military is currently holding the individual for profiling and interrogation as part of standard procedures. Security analysts note an increase in the number of insurgents surrendering in recent months, attributed to intensified military operations and pressure on terrorist hideouts throughout the North-East.

Troops continue to engage in clearance operations, patrols, and interdiction missions across various locations in Borno State as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle remaining terrorist camps and promote further surrenders.
