Compensate Dadiyata, family if alive – Kwankwaso to Nigerian Govt

Nigeria’s Kwankwaso Calls for Justice in Dadiyata Case

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, urged the Nigerian government on Saturday to compensate activist Abubakar Idris Dadiyata and his family, should he be found alive.

Kwankwaso’s comments follow a report alleging that Dadiyata was killed by police officers in Kaduna State. Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, claimed he witnessed the incident.

Kamarawa’s assertion, initially shared in Hausa, is circulating widely on social media. He has also submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police, claiming that specific officers were responsible for Dadiyata’s alleged killing.

Dadiyata, an academic and critic of government policies, was abducted by armed men from his home in Kaduna on August 1, 2019, and has been missing since. His disappearance is believed to be connected to his critical commentary regarding Northern state governments.

Kwankwaso commended Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu for initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance. In a post on social media platform X, he expressed gratitude for the inquiry and called for surveillance of the implicated officers to prevent tampering with the investigation.

While awaiting the investigation’s outcome, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for the government to ensure that, if Dadiyata is still alive, both he and his family receive due compensation for their suffering.

He also acknowledged the ongoing public support and advocacy surrounding Dadiyata’s case, commending Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge for his contributions to recent developments. Kwankwaso remains hopeful that the investigation will ultimately bring truth and justice.
