RIVERS: APC c’ttee dismisses list of cleared, uncleared state assembly aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected a circulated list of cleared and uncleared aspirants for the upcoming 2027 elections, asserting that it did not originate from the committee.

Reports indicate that the committee had previously conducted screenings involving 98 candidates for the party’s primaries. Among these, 65 individuals affiliated with the state governor were reportedly not cleared, while 33 loyal to Chief Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, were confirmed by the committee, which is chaired by Rt. Hon. Muraina Ajibola.

However, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by committee secretary Hon. Tanko Yamowa, party officials clarified that the list circulating across various media platforms is unauthorized and inaccurate.

“The attention of the party leadership has been drawn to the circulation of a purported list of cleared and uncleared aspirants for the Rivers State House of Assembly,” the statement read. “We categorically state that this publication is false, unauthorized, and does not come from the appropriate party authorities.”

The statement further emphasized that the screening process concluded less than 24 hours prior, and no official list has been shared at this time. It reassured members of the party and the public that any official announcements regarding aspirants’ status will follow established protocols.

“We urge party members, aspirants, supporters, and the general public to disregard the purported list,” the statement concluded. “This misinformation appears to be the work of mischief-makers aiming to sow confusion and tension within the party.”

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and due process throughout the screening process.
