France to summon Iran envoy after language centre closure in Tehran | US-Israel war on Iran News
Iran has closed a French-language center connected to its embassy in Tehran, prompting France to summon Iran’s ambassador and consider “appropriate measures,” according to the French Foreign Ministry.
“The recent closure of the center is an unjustifiable attack on France’s cultural presence in Iran, following the assault on two staff members of the French embassy last July,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux in a statement released on Sunday.
The Iranian judiciary announced the center’s closure, alleging it had conducted “illegal acts that violated diplomatic conventions.” The Mizan news agency, affiliated with the Iranian judiciary, reported that the center, known as the French Language Centre (CLF), had operated under the guise of language instruction for several years.
The report claimed the center abused its status as a language training facility to “identify and build networks among the country’s elite figures while facilitating their departure from Iran.”
In response, the French Foreign Ministry stated it would take appropriate measures and would summon Iran’s ambassador to Paris at the request of Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.
Tensions between Tehran and Paris have escalated in recent months. In August, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced the detention of two French diplomats, alleging their involvement in foreign interference during a national security investigation. They were later handed over to the French ambassador.
