Gov Adeleke summons emergency security meeting over rising attacks in Osun

Osun Governor Calls Emergency Security Meeting Amid Rising Violence
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has convened an emergency security council meeting in response to recent acts of violence and the destruction of public property throughout the state.
In a statement issued Monday by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke indicated that the meeting aims to address escalating security concerns linked to alleged political violence.
The session is scheduled to take place at the Governor’s Office and will include attendance from service commanders. The agenda will focus on tackling what the statement termed “the menace of thuggery,” purportedly connected to individuals associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I summon this emergency meeting to address this matter of urgent public importance,” Adeleke was quoted as saying. He expressed concern over attacks on public properties and questioned the lack of action from law enforcement in preventing such incidents.
The governor emphasized the need for the security council to formulate strategies that would prevent future occurrences and help restore public confidence in security agencies. “We have a sacred duty to sustain the confidence of the public in the security agencies,” he added.
The urgency of the meeting comes as political tensions rise ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, with reports of vandalism targeting campaign materials. The Imole Campaign Council has accused suspected APC supporters of damaging campaign billboards affiliated with both the governor’s campaign and the Accord Party. In response, APC spokesperson Oluremi Omowaiye has dismissed these allegations as unfounded and politically motivated.
Additionally, reports from DAILY POST indicated that Kolade Eluyera, the son of the Accord Women Leader in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, was killed by unidentified assailants.
