By Dapo Akinrefon & Adeola Badru

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officially declared his candidacy for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections during a rally on Thursday. He emphasized the need for a “reset” in Nigeria, reflecting concerns about the current economic conditions faced by citizens.

The announcement coincided with the formation of an alliance between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM). This coalition aims to challenge the existing political landscape and strengthen opposition to the ruling party.

In his remarks, Makinde urged citizens to become actively engaged in the political process rather than remaining passive observers. “Without a multi-party system, there is no democracy,” he stated, calling for unity among opposition parties to collectively address the nation’s challenges.

“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Ibadan is the city of warriors,” he added, noting that this alliance would enable them to field candidates from the presidency down to state assemblies.

Makinde’s declaration signifies a strategic move in the political arena as he prepares for the 2027 elections, advocating for a collaborative approach among opposition groups.
