Kerry Washington has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 47-year-old actress was joined by her parents Earl and Valerie Washington as well as her filmmaker pal Tyler Perry and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha, as they celebrated the Scandal’s impressive feat outside the W Hollywood Hotel on Monday.
The actress was also presented with a plaque donning a miniature version of her star.
‘Presented to Kerry Washington on the occasion of the placement of your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. December 2, 2024. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce,’ it read.
Later in the evening, she caught up with Extra TV and revealed what she would tell her younger self for encouragement now that she has become a successful actress.
‘I would tell her to try to enjoy the journey,’ Washington said. ‘To trust that everything is going to be okay in the end. I think sometimes we get so stressed out about whether life is going to unfold in a way that we want it to.’
The actress also explained that she would tell her younger self to her ‘grateful’ about where she is in ‘each moment.’
She also sweetly gave a nod to her parents, saying that the star belongs ‘just as much’ to them as it does to her.
‘I think this star is all of ours… because I know that when I stand here and look at this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame I know its only possible because of every director I’ve ever worked with [and] every actor I’ve been able to act across from,’ Washington said emotionally.
The multihyphenate is best known for her roles in Scandal, Fantastic Four, and Little Fires Everywhere, as well as other films and TV productions.
Beside her acting talents, she also has received various awards for her activism — the NAACP President’s Award, the GLAAD Media Vanguard Award and the ACLU Bill of Rights Award.
In 2023, the style maven released her memoir ‘Thicker than Water: A Memoir’ and has seen massive success on screen.
