Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has received clearance from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to participate in the upcoming primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial District. This decision puts an end to recent speculation regarding his screening status within the party.
Bello, along with two other candidates from the region, was confirmed eligible to compete in the APC primary set for Monday. The other candidates include Momoh Obaro, the APC Diaspora Secretary, and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.
This announcement follows a period of uncertainty marked by rumors suggesting that Bello’s screening process might have faced difficulties, raising questions about his ability to participate in the primary. However, recent communications from party officials confirm that he successfully completed the screening.
Stakeholders in Kogi Central view this clearance as a significant boost for the preparations leading to Monday’s primary, which is expected to garner substantial political attention due to Bello’s influence and the prominence of the other candidates.
With Bello’s involvement, political activities in the district have intensified, with supporters mobilizing in anticipation of the primary election. The APC plans to conduct the primary in accordance with its electoral guidelines, and the winner will represent the party in the Kogi Central Senatorial contest against the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
