No religion supports banditry, killings – Tinubu

President Tinubu Advocates for Peace Amid Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations

LAGOS—President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of peace and unity on Wednesday during Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks. He stated that no religion condones violence or killing, urging Nigerians to reject banditry and ethnic hatred.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president highlighted the festival’s core teachings of sacrifice, obedience, and love for humanity, drawing parallels to the example set by Prophet Ibrahim.

“Nowhere in the holy teachings does it say you should engage in banditry or take a human life,” Tinubu said. He reminded attendees that the essence of sacrifice is reflected in the value placed on human life, referencing the story of a child being replaced with an animal.

He called upon Nigerians to embody kindness and generosity, particularly during the festive season. “No discrimination, no ethnicity, no hatred. We should share love and be generous to one another in a way that reflects the values of our country and humanity,” he added.

Tinubu also urged citizens to uphold the rule of law and exercise tolerance towards one another, noting that Nigeria’s diverse background should serve as a unifying force rather than a source of division. He reiterated that peace and development should take precedence over ethnic, religious, or political divides.

During the prayers, Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, urged the Muslim community to promote unity, sacrifice, and generosity.

Several key government officials and traditional leaders participated in the prayers alongside the president, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Governor Babatunde Fashola, Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
